ASP.net: Snippets - Rudimentary url rewriting

a while back i rewrote one of my sites into asp.net, and sat with the problem that all my links all over the net obviously still pointed to the php extension.

Luckily asp.net provides us with a very simple mechanism to avoid this issue (among virtual path providers) - the urlMappings node in your web.config (under system.web)

Note: If you're using non mapped extensions in IIS (in my case it was php) you'd need to point them to the asp.net asapi)

<urlMappings enabled="true">
	<add url="~/somepage.aspx" mappedUrl="~/real.aspx"/>
	<add url="~/somepage.php" mappedUrl="~/real.aspx"/>
</urlMappings>

Incidently I eventually migrated back to my old PHP hosting provider, shot myself in the foot by moving to an extremely unreliable cheap web hosting provider.
